On Freedoms Wings

This photographic series captures the recent On Freedom’s Wings monument — a life-size steel sculpture of an Avro Lancaster bomber — located at Norton Disney on the border of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, next to the A46, close to the former RAF Swinderby. The installation rises about 15 metres above ground, giving the impression that the Lancaster is flying across the horizon. Through close-ups, abstract compositions, and wider vistas, the images explore the monument’s structural ribs, sweeping wings, and the interplay of light and shadow. Against this backdrop, its symbolic resonance — as a tribute to the aircraft, the aircrews, and Bomber Command’s legacy — comes alive. This collection is a visual celebration of engineering, memory, and the enduring spirit of the Lancaster
